How to Build an Email Campaign Overnight that your Members will Love
If there was one thing that I hated more than anything, it was getting email newsletters from my school. These clunky, essay-length email newsletters crowded my email inbox day in and day out. To make my life easier, I just started deleting them. However, I quickly realized that there was a problem with this strategy: there was a lot of important content in these emails. As a result of my eagerness to delete these items, I missed out on some pretty worthwhile events.
Yet, the problem wasn’t that I was getting too many of these email newsletters. The problem was that my school sent out these emails without any thought put into whether I would want to read them or not. So when it came time to help manage my first email campaign for SOURCE, I was determined to write emails that people would love reading.
I began using MailChimp, an email service that I started to use at my internship at Code for America. MailChimp allows businesses and people, to “send better emails” (as their headline boldly proclaims).
Although I was worried about engaging with a new platform, MailChimp was dead simple to use, and it made my life a lot easier.

One of the most obvious ways that MailChimp makes life easier for everyone is through their templates. MailChimp allows you to design a template for a specific purpose (such as a newsletter). After choosing a template, you can just click-and-drag content into any space in the template. This means that each time you need to send a newsletter or an invitation to an event, you have a template ready at your fingertips. You can cut down assembly times for your newsletter to a fraction of the time you were using before.
A MailChimp account gives you all kinds of automation potential. For example, you can send a welcome email every time a new subscriber joins, or schedule an email to send during the next week, after you wrap up a major event. This allows you to communicate with your audience with minimal effort. It also ensures that your audience feels that emails are coming in at appropriate times. This also means your audience gets a great digital experience.

Every email you send out provides valuable insights into your audience’s behavior.You’ll be able to see how many people opened your email, and what links were clicked the most. You can then compare different emails to see which ones did better with your audience.
